Brevet till Obama på G8-möte

I'm writing to ask you to commit the US to be a leader in the fight against global hunger at the G8 summit in Italy this week. As you know, the UN is reporting that the number of hungry or undernourished people in the world has topped 1.02 billion, for the first time in history. This is a global hunger crisis, and we need your leadership.
Speak up loudly and clearly to push world leaders to commit to:
* Invest more - and more wisely - in agriculture so poor people can build sustainable rural livelihoods and rely less on food aid;
* Buy more food aid locally and regionally in emergency situations instead of shipping food halfway around the world, creating waste and delay;
* Help poor communities farm sustainably so that soil can produce more food today without damaging the chance to grow food tomorrow; and
* Target aid to the poorest of the poor, like small-scale farmers and rural communities that depend on agriculture for their livelihoods but are often left behind.
These steps will help families across the world in areas plagued by war, conflict, drought and natural disasters to rebuild and grow resilient to future crises.
Sincerely

Catja Kaloudis
